In June 2006, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco set up the Albert-II-de-Monaco Foundation, dedicated to the protection of the environment and sustainable energy. Climatic changes, biodiversity and water are this foundation’s three main areas of activity.
“Today, all studies show that climatic change, associated with human activity, is having a serious impact on our environment. On order to adapt our behaviour accordingly, everybody needs to be mobilised and the scientists have a determining role to play. One study conducted by UNEP shows that in one year, commercial flights release as much carbon dioxide as all human activity in Africa. The ambitious project you are undertaking gives rise to much hope. The hope that with talent, research and innovation we shall be able to leave a better world for our children. I am happy to sponsor the Solar Impulse project, a technological and human adventure.”
